3-D Mammography
3D Mammography at Mountain West Medical Center
Mountain West Medical Center provides 3D mammography to deliver clear and detailed breast images. This imaging method captures multiple slices of breast tissue, allowing for improved visualization and evaluation.
Combining 3D mammograms with standard 2D mammograms can help reduce the need for additional imaging and may increase the detection of certain types of breast cancer during screenings.
The Importance of Early Detection
According to the American Cancer Society, detecting breast cancer early and accessing timely treatment are two key factors that can help reduce the risk of death from breast cancer.
When breast cancer is detected early—before it has spread—it may be more manageable and responsive to treatment. Routine mammogram screenings are a recommended method for identifying cancer at an earlier stage.
The American Cancer Society offers screening guidelines for individuals at average and high risk for breast cancer.
What Is a 3D Mammogram?
A 3D mammogram, or digital breast tomosynthesis, takes multiple images of breast tissue from different angles to create a three-dimensional image. This allows healthcare providers to examine breast tissue in greater detail.
A 3D mammogram may be used to screen for breast cancer or to evaluate symptoms such as breast pain, lumps, or nipple discharge.
