Emergency Care at Mountain West Medical Center

When life takes an unexpected turn, having local access to emergency care can bring a sense of reassurance. Our Emergency Department is prepared to care for people experiencing a range of emergency conditions, offering thoughtful, skilled support to individuals and families throughout Tooele County during challenging moments.

Our hospital has been consecutively recognized as a Top Performer in Quality from Vizient in recent years, reflecting ongoing efforts to support quality care in our community. Our Emergency Department is also accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Heart Failure Center by the American College of Cardiology, designations tied to the processes we follow when caring for patients with chest pain or heart failure. Through our affiliation with the University of Utah, our community has access to enhanced clinical resources, including TeleStroke, TeleBurn, TeleICU, TeleNeuro, and TeleNICU services.

As a Designated Trauma Facility, we provide 24/7 emergency care, including emergency general surgery. Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery support is also available through on-call providers who serve patients in Tooele County and the surrounding region.

Tooele City is also a home base for University of Utah AirMed and its skilled team of flight paramedics and flight nurses. Their presence supports timely transfers for patients whose condition may require a higher level of specialty care at a larger regional medical center.

Mountain West Ambulance is our primary emergency response and ambulance transport along with other agency partners providing professional medical transportation for patients experiencing serious illness or injury, heart attack and stroke symptoms.

Ambulance teams are equipped to deliver life-saving care during transport, including:

  • Advanced cardiac monitoring
  • Oxygen therapy and airway support
  • Trauma stabilization
  • Stroke and heart attack response
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Continuous monitoring en route to the ER

Emergency medical crews coordinate directly with our Emergency Department to help patients receive timely care upon arrival.

Our Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians, trained in the evaluation and treatment of emergency conditions. Working together with our nursing staff, surgical teams, air-medical partners, and telemedicine specialists, the department focuses on offering a steady, informed, and supportive experience for patients and their loved ones throughout their visit.

Situations involving sudden, severe, or concerning changes—such as head injuries, high fevers, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or signs of stroke—often need prompt medical attention.
